Philly Power Yoga

This class is taught by:

Steve Gold

Owner and Director of Philly Power Yoga & Thrive Pilates

Gold is certified to teach “Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga” and continuously studies his craft for advanced techniques to share with his students and instructors. Philly Power Yoga has been teaching Gold’s signature yoga for 10 years, and has now expanded into a full-service facility with a variety of yoga, Pilates and fitness classes, as well as massage and acupuncture services.

Philly Power Yoga is not leisure yoga. It is tough, you will sweat. It was developed to identify and correct the pressures the Western world puts on the body. The practice isn’t a fad, it’s a proven lifestyle with the goal of making spiritual fitness an individual’s primary goal.

Gold takes pride in his instructor’s primary goal of connecting to students by sharing personal experiences in addition to poses, which allow students to reach spiritual fitness by reconnecting with their authentic self. He trains instructors who are honest, real, and accessible. He teaches that beginning with unhealthy baggage and habits are ok, simply be still in the moment no matter how painful and begin to reconnect with the real you.

Gold doesn’t limit his yoga teachings to his studio. His new non-profit, Project 4 Peace, takes his Power Yoga back to his roots in the inner city to teach youth yoga principles that strengthen confidence and self-worth. Gold acknowledges that his own self-value only comes from being in service for others. When not in the studio, Gold is spending time outdoors with his two kids.

Ella Cuda

Ella loves to fuse her knowledge of traditional dance technique, breath inspired movement and yoga to create an invigorating and smooth flow to each style of class she offers. Ella received her BFA in Dance from The University of the Arts in 2015; her love of moving and years in dance class inspired her to pursue her Barre teacher training certification with Kelly Love. On the contrary, she discovered yoga’s physical and mental healing capacity after sustaining an injury while dancing years ago; since her initial introduction to the practice her passion for yoga has flourished. Ella graduated from Beyond Asana RYS, completing 200 hours of Vinyasa study, as well as the 48- Hour Advanced Yoga Teacher Intensive with Brittany Policastro and a Postpartum Teacher Training Certification with Lara Kohn Thompson. All forms of movement allow Ella to “let go” of limiting inhibitions; she strives to offer a class that allows others to also release into their potential and enjoy their physical practice in a safe and supportive environment. She believes in sustainable growth (on and off the mat) and strives for students to discover a unique, individual movement style that will continue to serve them far into their future. She feels drawn to working with a broad population, from those who have never stepped foot on a yoga mat or into a Barre class, to expecting mothers, families, and the experienced mind-body practitioner. Ella recently assisted for The Art of Yoga Project pilot program in west Philadelphia, a non-profit organization that uses art, yoga, and journaling for early intervention to help at-risk and sexually exploited girls prepare for a positive future. She is an Eat Breathe Thrive- Yoga for Eating Disorders certified Thrive Tribe facilitator. Ella leads the Prenatal Fitness Program and offers personal postpartum evaluations to clients, ensuring a smooth transition from birth back into a safe physical fitness practice. She organizes the Karma Yoga Classes at the studio, establishing partnerships with other businesses in the community to create events to benefit organizations in Philly and other areas. You can find Ella assisting with general studio management from ensuring emails are answered to posting photos to social media and keeping the studio running smoothly. She splits her time between her home in South Carolina and Philadelphia, equally missing each when away.  She is an avid tea enthusiast, nature lover and devoted sister.

Chelsea Gilday

Senior Pilates, Barre, Cardio & Yoga Instructor

Chelsea Gilday was a dancer for most of her life. She practiced every form of dance, but her main focus was ballet. She studied at the Rock School for Dance Education and graduated with a certificate in Dance. She guested with the Pennsylvania Ballet throughout her time there and soon after joined the company. While there she performed a variety of repertoire from original contemporary works set on the company to the classics. With Pennsylvania Ballet she also performed outreach and education programs, bringing dance to the inner city schools of Philadelphia. Chelsea also worked with MANNA while with the company, performing an HIV benefit performance called Shut Up and Dance.
After leaving the ballet company to pursue other interests, she found Pilates and from her first reformer lesson, she wanted more! Chelsea finished her Pilates certification in New York at True Pilates NYC. She is classically trained with all equipment and mat work through Romana's Pilates, where she was able to take lessons with master teachers Sari Mejia Santo and Cynthia Lochard. Chelsea was even able to work with Romana Kryzanowska, Joseph Pilates’ protege student. Chelsea teaches Private Pilates Equipment Training, Group Pilates training, Barre Sculpt Classes, YP Fusion, and Power Yoga at Philly Power Yoga and Thrive Pilates. In the summer of 2013, while filming the movie "Dead Man Down" in Philadelphia, Chelsea worked exclusively with starring actress Noomi Rapace, who even asked her co-star Dominic Cooper to join in on the lessons.
Yet nothing quite gave her the same spark as dancing until she stepped onto her yoga mat. In January 2015, she was accepted to study with Meghan Currie in Nicaragua for her 200 hour YTT and is certified with Yoga Alliance, along with finishing her certification with Steve Gold at Philly Power Yoga. Chelsea loves the creativity and freedom in the flow, making it feel like a dance with focus around the core and alignment. Chelsea is inspired by all forms of movement and infuses her pilates and dance background into her yoga flow. She encourages her students to never stop exploring, questioning, and pushing themselves beyond their own limitations.
She loves this practice because to her it is not exercise--it connects your mind to your body. Every path is so individualized and the more the physical practice unlocks the body, the more the mind opens. It helps you work through any obstacles and brings emotions to the surface that may be very confrontational. Chelsea is passionate about learning and continues to strive to be a better teacher daily. She feels there is no better feeling than being upside down. When she is on her hands balancing, she is completely in the present moment--a meditation for her. She feels her mat is her second home. When she is not practicing, she loves to travel, hike, be by the ocean, or get lost in the city.

Ewa Zeljazkow

Yoga Instructor

Yoga found Ewa in 2001. The challenges she faced on her mat reflected very much on where she was in her life at the time.  Ewa realized how much of a positive impact yoga has on her everyday life , on and off the mat. She continually seeks to grow as a teacher and student of yoga. She decided to share her love for yoga by getting her Certification in Power Vinyasa and is E-RYT 200,YACEP  (Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher, Continuing Education Provider) Certified with Yoga Alliance.

Ewa encourages students to move towards their potential in the physical postures and guides students to understand that yoga is not just about the physical practice, but also about a commitment to a positive, life-altering experience. She hopes that students will find a sense of self-discovery, with a deeper aim of self-realization.

Sara Ronsvalle

Senior Yoga Instructor, Yin Yoga and Pre-Natal Yoga

For Sara, the essence of yoga is to be present. (not so easy in an over-worked, over-stimulated world.) Yoga is a vital practice for her, one that uses the body and the breath as a vehicle to cultivate greater awareness and strength.

Sara’s studio classes are taught in the vinyasa style, a dynamic synchronization of yogic breath and postures. These classes offer a good dose of athletic rigor, met by an equal sense of meditative calm. her relaxed, approachable demeanor infuses each session and encourages practitioners to “be where they are, not where their neighbor is.” Private group and one-on-one sessions are tailored to specific interests and needs, and will always uphold the philosophy that yoga is a continual process of self-inquiry.

Sara is a certified yoga instructor through the Nosara Yoga Institute in Nosara, Costa Rica. She received additional training in yoga for trauma, children and pre-natal. she is forever grateful to all teachers, yoga or otherwise, who have supported her along this journey. She looks forward to joining you on yours.

Nikki Campion

Originally from outside Boston, Nikki started practicing yoga in High School to compensate for her sports injury that left her on the sidelines. From that moment on, yoga became an important aspect of her everyday life.

Moving to Philadelphia in Fall 2011 brought her to PPY as a work-study student, learning the inner-workings of a yoga studio. Steve then took Nikki under his wing to teach her the philosophy of PPY and the classes that are so important to the PPY clientele.

Nikki has been teaching at PPY since the Summer of 2012, a nice balance from her day (and night) job as a full-time graduate student. She enjoys every minute in the studio, whether sweating it out or teaching others.

If you would like more information about Nikki or have questions/comments about her teaching, you can contact her campion.nicole@gmail.com.

Lindsay Browning

Yoga Instructor

Yoga and it's principles have become a very important nurturing part of my life. I was given the opportunity in 2010 to practice vigorously and found that the ideals that yoga offered were what I had been missing and the methods of the practice were very useful in my day to day life. The first Power Yoga class I participated in was in Boston at a Baptiste studio in Cambridge. I felt an instant connection to the flow of the style and the challenges it presented to me.

Upon completing a series of studies in early 2011 with Philly Power Yoga's Steve Gold, I began to guide Vinyasa practices. I'm determined to continue my personal investigation of yoga and am happy to continue spreading the news about the healing benefits and transformations Yoga can provide.

Lindsay's background is in Contemporary Modern Dance and Theater. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Radford University in Virginia in 2005. Shortly after completing her degree she moved to Philadelphia to begin creating and performing under the umbrella of it's movement arts community. She has a history with yoga through her dance education as well as a vast knowledge of the body and it's functions through her studies of the body and it's movement potential.

Troy Jackson

Troy was looking for a positive change in his life when he found Philly Power Yoga and began training with Steve Gold. Through his daily practice on and off the mat, Troy created the positive change he sought. Through the tutelage of Steve, attendance at Baron Baptiste Level One Teacher Training, and various other workshops, Troy has deepened his knowledge of yoga and shares this with the Philly Power Yoga community. Troy invites students to find their own inner power through a vigorous class that will make them sweat and inspire change at the same time. After earning his Masters Degree in Social Work at Bryn Mawr College, Troy continues to inspire change within the community in his work as a licensed therapist in Philadelphia.

“Troy brought me to the mat. He made me understand that the practice is about you and not anything or anyone else. Being in his class has changed my life. His guidance and caring is priceless.”
-Jeff Palmer

"A mini Yoga Boot Camp"
-Julia Bringhurst.

“Troy inspires his students with a challenging workout and compassionate approach. I always know I will leave Troy's class having strengthened and stretched my body and mind."
-Hally Bayer

“I have had the good fortune of having Troy as my Yoga instructor for some time now. Troy's teaching philosophy is based on two points. First, take your practice seriously but don't take yourself seriously. Secondly, the practice of Yoga can be a unique experience for all participants. As a result, Troy reaches the perfect balance in his teaching method: Classes are physically and mentally intense and challenging but are always in context of a very relaxed, positive, and comforting atmosphere. Furthermore, while Troy gently pushes students to their physical limit, he always stresses safety and encourages students to modify their poses whenever needed. As Troy likes to say (while all of us are sweating profusely on our mats!) "Even if you just come here and quietly meditate on your mat, you are practicing Yoga." There are other qualities Troy holds that are not as quantifiable as his high degree of professionalism and his deep knowledge of his craft - He's just a cool guy to be around that makes one feel comfortable practicing Yoga.”
-Max Fisher
